South Carolina man who murdered brother left behind task list at the crime scene

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – A South Carolina man facing murder charges in the death of his younger brother may have left evidence behind in the form of a handwritten note that appears to outline a crime plan.

Authorities arrested Charles Gordon Perry, 55, in December 2024, shortly after his brother, David Perry, 51, was reported missing and subsequently found dead in a warehouse from a gunshot wound.

Investigators discovered suspicious items, including a firearm inside a backpack near the scene, linking the evidence to Charles Perry. Charles raised further suspicion when he arrived at the warehouse during the investigation, asking about his brother’s condition while reportedly bearing “red spots” on his footwear that resembled blood.

Alongside the other evidence collected from Carolina Sound Communications, the Perry family business where the brothers worked, police found a handwritten note containing a list. Recent court documents reveal the list featured entries such as “Gun,” “Kill Cameras,” “Unique Pants,” and “Hammer,” among others. A particularly incriminating note read, “To Do: Leave Phone, Leave iPad,” followed by instructions to “Burn clothes/Rag/Suit, Clean & Toss Casings, Gun.”

Law enforcement sought and obtained a warrant on February 6 to compare the handwriting from the note against Charles Perry’s handwriting. Supporting the request, a detective stated that a colleague at the business, familiar with Perry’s writing over several years, identified the script on the notepad as his. Consequently, a judge ordered that Charles Perry be detained without bond.

Following David Perry’s death on December 18, 2024, Charles Perry became an immediate person of interest. Upon his arrival at the crime scene, he was confronted with the backpack, wherein he acknowledged ownership of the bag and its contents, noting that he had not seen the firearm for a couple of days.

The investigation further revealed that nearly two hours of footage were missing from the security cameras, intensifying the suspicion surrounding the elder Perry brother.

Charles Perry now faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The case continues to unfold as authorities dig deeper into the evidence surrounding the fatal incident.
