Springfield Man Found Guilty in Fatal 2020 Commuter Lot Shootings

Springfield, Massachusetts – A man from Springfield, Massachusetts was convicted on Wednesday for the 2020 fatal shootings at a commuter lot near a mall in Manchester. The incident resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman.

A jury in the Superior Court found Gregory Crichlow, 24, guilty of two counts of murder along with one count of murder with special circumstances in relation to the deaths of Gregory Scott, Jr., 24, and Jennifer Hicks, 20, both from Massachusetts.

The shootings took place on August 2, 2020, when two 911 calls reported gunfire around 2 a.m. in a commuter lot near The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, then known as the Buckland Hills Mall. Upon arrival at the scene, Connecticut State Police troopers discovered a gathering of approximately 100 vehicles in the parking lot for illegal car “races,” according to court records.

A witness, who was present in the same Jeep Wrangler as Scott and Hicks, told detectives that she observed a pickup truck pull in and a man approach Scott before opening fire through the driver’s side window, resulting in the tragic deaths of both individuals.

It was revealed during court proceedings that the witness had seen the truck at a gas station earlier that day. Investigators were able to link video footage from the gas station to Crichlow.

Furthermore, investigators uncovered messages between Crichlow and Scott dating back to April 2020, suggesting a feud between them. The investigation also revealed messages indicating Crichlow’s search for Scott prior to the shooting.

The sentencing for Crichlow has been scheduled for June 26 in Hartford Superior Court. The Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice expressed gratitude to Connecticut State Police Detective Michael Grabowski and Deputy Sheriff Dan Iozzi of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication throughout the investigation and trial process.
