New York — A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody after two women were brutally assaulted at a subway station in Brooklyn over the weekend. The disturbing incident unfolded Saturday morning on the R subway line, where one woman was pushed onto the tracks and another was punched multiple times.
Curtis Signal was arrested shortly after the attacks, which occurred around 8:45 a.m. at the 53rd Street and Fourth Avenue station in Sunset Park. According to police reports, the first victim, a 51-year-old woman, was suddenly pushed onto the tracks. Witnesses indicated that she sustained three broken ribs from the fall. Afterward, Signal allegedly turned his aggression toward a second woman, aged 43, who was present on the platform, leaving her with serious facial injuries.
Eyewitness Al Rivera described the chaos, saying that Signal had been seated on the platform before he suddenly targeted the women. “I can only imagine how petrified they were,” he stated, emphasizing the horror of the scene. Other bystanders rushed to help, managing to pull the woman off the tracks just in time.
Signal faces multiple charges including reckless endangerment, assault, and harassment. Authorities have confirmed that he has a history of violent behavior and is currently on probation until June 2027. Notably, this recent attack is not his first involvement in subway-related assaults.
In September, he had allegedly attacked a 67-year-old woman while waiting for a train in Queens. He reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended for fare evasion, allowing authorities to link him to that assault. Just days later, he assaulted a police officer at a different subway location, causing severe facial injuries to the officer.
Prior to these incidents, Signal faced charges in May 2022 for assaulting his 13-year-old sister. This pattern of violence raises serious concerns about public safety in the city, particularly within the subway system, where incidents of aggression have increased in recent years.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the attacks as they work to maintain safety in New York’s public transit system. The alarming events have prompted discussions about the need for enhanced security measures and support for victims of such violent acts.
