Inglewood, California – A local man continues to recover from a brutal attack outside his home, a violent incident that authorities are treating as a hate crime. Two weeks after the April 15 assault, Javier Ibarra is still coping with physical and emotional scars, including a swollen face and a lingering fracture beneath his right eye.
The attack occurred in the early morning, around 6:30 a.m., in the 200 block of W. Hyde Park Boulevard. Surveillance footage captured the assailant, who Ibarra reportedly had never seen before, launching an unprovoked attack. During the altercation, Ibarra was struck multiple times on the head and face, leaving him shaken and injured.
Ibarra, who identifies as Latino, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the attacker hurled racist slurs as he assaulted him. “He shouted, ‘I hate you f—— Mexican. I hate you,'” Ibarra said, describing the moment when the suspect began hitting him.
Amid the chaos, Ibarra called for his wife. Iliana Garcia responded to her husband’s screams and hurried outside, which prompted the assailant to flee the scene. Garcia expressed relief that she arrived in time, potentially preventing further harm.
Ibarra expressed gratitude that the incident was documented by surveillance cameras, which he hopes will aid in identifying the attacker if he is seen again. “I will never forget his face,” he insisted.
Inglewood police are actively investigating the case and have provided a description of the suspect. He is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 200 pounds, and has a tattoo on his stomach, along with a mole visible between his left eye and nose. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and distinctive white and green Nike shoes.
Authorities are also looking into a vehicle that may be connected to the crime. The possible suspect vehicle is described as a 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in silver, blue, or green, featuring tinted rear windows.
As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with information about the attack or the suspect to reach out at 310-412-5206. The community remains on high alert, hoping for justice for Ibarra and a swift resolution to this alarming crime.
