LONGUEUIL, Quebec – After surviving a vicious attack, 21-year-old Laury Choinière is using her experience to raise awareness about domestic violence and to offer support to women facing similar situations.
Laury’s mother, Julie Choinière, shared before and after photos of her daughter on social media in order to advocate for justice. Laury, who was recently assaulted, is urging women in abusive relationships to recognize the warning signs and take action before it’s too late.
The young woman recalls the terrifying encounter that took place at her ex’s apartment, leaving her fearing for her life. Her mother expressed shock at the sight of her daughter’s injuries, highlighting the reality of domestic violence and the impact it has on families.
The suspect, 27-year-old Yan-Phillipe Leduc, has a history of violence and was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of assault by choking, assault causing bodily harm, breach of conditions, and forcible confinement. Court records indicate that Leduc had previously faced similar charges in another case of domestic violence.
