Teen Accused of Dublin Restaurant Violence Faces Custody Warning for Bail Breaches

Dublin, Ireland – A 17-year-old boy is facing the possibility of custody for allegedly engaging in violent disorder at a restaurant in Dublin on Christmas Eve, where two individuals tragically lost their lives. Tristan Sherry, 26, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head after a fatal shooting involving Jason Hennessy Sr at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown. Mr. Hennessy, 48, passed away 11 days after the incident while receiving treatment at a hospital.

The teenager was charged by GardaĆ in January with participating in violent disorder at the restaurant on December 24 by either using or threatening to use violence alongside three other individuals. This behavior instilled fear in others present at the scene for their safety. The youth, who is entitled to anonymity as a minor, recently attended his second hearing at the Dublin Children’s Court after a six-week adjournment. The Director of Public Prosecutions was expected to provide further directions on the case due to a potential for additional charges.

During the hearing, Garda John Hayes explained that they were not prepared to submit a file to the DPP yet, citing the complexity of the case. Defense barrister Doireann McDonagh expressed the defendant’s desire for a timely resolution before turning 18 and becoming legally viewed as an adult. The court discussed concerns about the teen violating bail conditions on multiple occasions, prompting a suggestion to tighten these restrictions.

Recognizing the teen’s lack of prior convictions or familiarity with court proceedings, Judge William Aylmer issued a warning about the consequences of failing to abide by bail conditions. The youth was urged to comply to avoid potential revocation of bail and subsequent custody. The case, which is part of a larger investigation involving seven individuals, was adjourned for six weeks as authorities continue their legal proceedings.

Other defendants also faced charges related to the incident, including individuals accused of murder, assault, and engaging in violent disorder at the steakhouse. The court heard that the teenager voluntarily turned himself in at a Garda station but declined to respond to the charge against him. The involvement of multiple individuals in the event reflects a complex and ongoing legal process as authorities work to bring justice to those affected by the tragic events that unfolded on Christmas Eve in Dublin.
