BOSTON — A teenager has been arrested in connection with a double shooting in the Mattapan neighborhood that occurred in July 2024, resulting in one fatality and another serious injury. The 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Friday, following a warrant issued by Suffolk Superior Court.
Authorities reported the arrest of the youth at approximately 12:26 p.m. He faces multiple charges, including murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, assault and battery with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
This development comes more than 16 months after the tragic incident. On July 5, 2024, police responded to reports of gunfire near Gladeside Avenue and Donwood Terrace around 12:23 p.m. Officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. Both victims were promptly transported to local hospitals; however, one, identified as 17-year-old Christian Cousins from Stoughton, later succumbed to his injuries.
Cousins was among the casualties during a violent holiday weekend in Boston, which saw a total of four separate shootings and seven victims overall. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect was acquainted with Cousins prior to the incident. Investigators have indicated they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence.
