Teen Kaylee Gain Begins Slow Recovery After Brutal Assault in Missouri

SPANISH LAKE, MISSOURI – A 16-year-old teen named Kaylee Gain has started her journey to recovery after slipping into a coma following a vicious after-school brawl. Despite showing signs of progress, Kaylee has no memory of the brutal beating she endured.

According to her family’s statement on Friday, Kaylee has recently been able to engage in limited verbal conversations after being moved out of the intensive care unit. She has also started speech therapy and is slowly regaining her strength with the help of hospital staff. Unfortunately, Kaylee has no recollection of the altercation that led to her hospitalization.

The road to recovery for Kaylee, who suffered brain bleeding and a skull fracture from the attack, has been challenging. The family had initially feared that she would never recover from the traumatic incident. Chilling footage of the assault on March 8 showed another girl pinning Kaylee down and repeatedly slamming her head on the concrete near Hazelwood East High School.

The 15-year-old assailant has been taken into custody and charged with assault. Additionally, the Gains family accused the attacker of boasting about the violent assault on social media, further demonstrating a lack of regard for the well-being of others. The family is calling for the perpetrator to be tried as an adult for the heinous crime.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but Kaylee’s family revealed that she and another student were suspended the day before the incident, hinting at a possible motive for retaliation. The family argued that the severity of Kaylee’s injuries should have been obvious to the accused based on the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has also joined the Gains family in pushing for the assailant to be tried as an adult. They believe that the nature of the attack and the alleged intelligence of the attacker warrant a trial in adult court. This tragic incident serves as a harsh reminder of the consequences of violence and the importance of seeking justice for the victims.
