Teen Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter in Family Dollar Shooting Case

CINCINNATI, OHIO – A 19-year-old man from Cincinnati pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges related to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old at a Family Dollar store. Tayvon Coffee admitted guilt to involuntary manslaughter and receiving stolen property in connection to the June 2021 killing of Galevon Beauchamp in Avondale.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, Coffee was one of four teenagers who approached Beauchamp in a stolen Nissan Altima near the Family Dollar on Reading Road. It was reported that Coffee, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was driving the car when Beauchamp was fatally shot in the head while crossing the street.

As part of the plea agreement, Coffee is expected to serve a mandatory four years for involuntary manslaughter and 12 months for receiving stolen property. Additionally, he is facing $7,000 in fines and could be sentenced to five to six and a half years in prison.

The guilty plea serves as a development in the tragic and senseless killing that took place in the Avondale neighborhood. The plea agreement also brings attention to the issue of juvenile involvement in serious crimes and the impact it has on families and communities.

The sentencing for Coffee is expected to provide some sense of closure and justice for the family and loved ones of Galevon Beauchamp, whose life was cut short in the tragic incident. This case also highlights the need for community efforts to address and prevent gun violence and related crimes involving young individuals.
