Teen Trio Charged with Murder of Middle School Student in Mississippi

Jackson, Mississippi – A tragic incident unfolded in Jackson, Mississippi, where a 14-year-old middle school student, Cameron Horne-Crook, was shot multiple times by a group of teenagers on Monday. His body, riddled with bullets, was found at the crime scene. Siyaski Crawford, 15, Maxle Mooneyham, 16, and John Foote, 17, have each been charged with Cameron’s murder and are being tried as adults in a case that could potentially be elevated to capital charges. Mooneyham faces an additional charge of tampering with evidence related to the killing.

According to statements made by Cameron’s mother, Violet Horne, her son had a connection to at least one of the suspects. It was revealed that Mooneyham, who had previously attended the same school as Cameron, had driven the victim to a location in Hinds County where he was later killed. Foote, as indicated in an affidavit, is accused of shooting and killing Cameron multiple times with a firearm of unknown caliber.

The motive behind the murder remains undisclosed by the authorities. However, Horne mentioned in an interview that it was driven by “hate.” Describing her son as fun-loving and always cracking jokes, Horne expressed her devastation over the loss of Cameron, who had been looking forward to starting high school the following year. Despite the arrests of Mooneyham and Foote, a fourth suspect remains at large, according to law enforcement.

Foote, held at Jackson City Jail, made an appearance in court where he requested a court-appointed lawyer, while Mooneyham’s parents were reportedly removed from the courtroom after causing a disturbance. The teenagers are facing the possibility of elevated capital murder charges, which could result in the death penalty upon conviction in Mississippi. Mooneyham and Crawford have been detained on $1.5 million bonds, while Foote has been denied bond.

As the investigation into the tragic incident continues, Horne remains determined to seek justice for her son, vowing to ensure he reaches his “final resting place.” Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact the Jackson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
