Teenager Arrested for Murder of Former Cypress Lakes High School Student in Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested and charged with the murder of a former student of Cypress Lakes High School, as reported by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, 17-year-old Jake Mason, was fatally shot on December 19, 2023 in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the arrest on Twitter and stated that the 15-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. The incident prompted Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District campuses to go into “Secure the Building” mode for safety.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred while Mason was waiting to pick up his girlfriend, who was still a student at Cypress Lakes High School. Mason, though a former student, was on the school grounds when the altercation with an unidentified group of males took place, resulting in his tragic death.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found a gathering of individuals and Mason was pronounced dead on the scene. The tragic incident has shocked the community and raised concerns about safety and security in the area. The suspect’s identity has not been released due to their status as a minor, and the investigation is ongoing.
