CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A tragic shooting took place in northwest Charlotte early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old teenager. The incident, believed to have occurred during a party, prompted a large police response to the 2700 block of West Trade Street just before 5 a.m.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Avyon Titus Thomas inside a residence with a fatal gunshot wound. Thomas, a student at Myers Park High School, was pronounced dead at the scene. The school expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Thomas, describing him as a loyal friend and caring child.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is treating the case as a homicide and has charged an 18-year-old, Jamir Easter, with involuntary manslaughter. Easter turned himself in to the authorities and was taken into custody. However, one individual was seen being released after being placed in a patrol car.

Residents in the area reported that the home where the shooting occurred is frequently used for rentals and gatherings. Some neighbors expressed concern over the lack of oversight by the rental company, emphasizing the potential dangers of hosting parties at the property.
