Texas man shot by 23-year-old girlfriend after she finds texts from another woman on his phone

HOUSTON, TX – A 23-year-old woman from Texas is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting her boyfriend to death, spurred by jealousy over text messages from another woman found on his phone.

Authorities announced the arrest of Tatyana Evans on Tuesday in connection with the killing of 28-year-old Geovanni Montague. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies responded to a call in the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 9 a man was discovered dead on Barely Lane, near Jones Road. Montague was found with multiple gunshot wounds and declared deceased at the scene.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez revealed that the pair had a tumultuous relationship, noting that jealousy likely played a role in the tragic incident. The shooting occurred near Oak Grove Apartments, where Montague lived with his mother.

Court records indicate that Montague’s mother described his relationship with Evans as “violent,” asserting that Evans had previously inflicted injuries on her son. Montague had reportedly filed a police report last December alleging threats from Evans, although it appears no charges were pursued at the time.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage capturing a vehicle resembling Evans’ car speeding away with its lights off around the time of Montague’s death. This discovery added weight to the suspicions surrounding Evans.

The sequence of events leading to the fatal encounter began on Feb. 8, when Montague and Evans were together at Montague’s apartment. After leaving for her mother’s residence, Evans found Montague’s phone in her car and discovered incriminating texts from another woman. Enraged, she allegedly armed herself, returned to confront Montague, and fired multiple shots during an argument.

Evans allegedly recounted to police that Montague grabbed her jacket during their confrontation, prompting her to open fire before leaving him on the street and returning home.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Evans had served in Afghanistan before the incident, according to the sheriff’s office. Her past service stands in stark contrast to the current allegations she faces.
