Third Suspect Arrested in Greenville County Detention Center’s Brutal Gang-Style Assault Case

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Authorities have apprehended a third suspect linked to a violent incident at the Greenville County Detention Center that took place earlier this year. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced the arrest of Brendan Gregory Taylor, 28, on Tuesday.

Taylor’s charges stem from an incident on March 30, in which he, along with two others, allegedly engaged in a brutal attack on a fellow inmate. Arrest warrants detail how Taylor acted in concert with Calvin Lee Thompson Jr., 27, and Tishone Dunlap-Wright, 23, resulting in significant injuries to the victim.

Officials reported that the assaulted inmate sustained severe blunt force trauma as well as internal bleeding, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest. Although the victim was revived, they required emergency surgery to remove their spleen and part of their pancreas, highlighting the gravity of the incident.

On October 29, authorities apprehended Thompson and Dunlap-Wright, paving the way for Taylor’s subsequent arrest. He now faces multiple serious charges including second-degree assault and battery by mob, criminal conspiracy, and aggravated assault and battery.

Following the March altercation, Taylor was transferred to the South Carolina Department of Corrections on April 9 due to different charges. He remains in custody there as this case unfolds.

The Greenville Detention Center initiated the request for a SLED investigation into the March incident, emphasizing the need for an external review of the violent altercation.

The prosecution of this case will be handled by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, which will bring forward the necessary legal proceedings against the three men involved in the attack, further underscoring the serious nature of the crime and the repercussions that await them.
