Detroit, Mich. — Three men have been charged in connection with the tragic shooting death of a six-year-old boy, Rylee Love, who was struck by a stray bullet while playing in his home on the city’s east side.
Demontrel Benard Wilson, 30, Deonate Cornealous Cherry, 28, and Terrance Jaland Blue, 28, face multiple charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy related to the incident. Authorities allege that the three men discharged firearms from a vehicle, targeting a group of individuals near the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. Prosecutors assert that stray bullets from their gunfire penetrated the home where Rylee was playing and fatally injured him.
The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. on July 27, when officers responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they were informed by family members that Rylee had been shot inside their residence. Responding officers found the young boy in a bedroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was promptly transported to an area hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Investigations concluded that the defendants fired handguns several times from their vehicle, ultimately leading to the tragic incident. They were arrested on August 20, and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy emphasized the senselessness of Rylee’s death, referring to him as “the ultimate innocent victim.” Worthy lamented the indiscriminate nature of gun violence, pointing out that the consequences of such actions often harm the most vulnerable, including children.
