HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio – Families across northwest Ohio are currently engaged in the monumental task of cleaning up their communities following a series of severe storms and tornadoes that ravaged the region on Thursday. The aftermath of the storms has left a trail of destruction in various areas, prompting residents to come together to restore their neighborhoods.
The National Weather Service recently confirmed the touchdown of an EF-1 tornado in southwest Hancock County, specifically near Jenera. This tornado remained on the ground for approximately six minutes causing considerable damage to five homes and several farm buildings. Additionally, another tornado was reported in southeast Hancock County near Vanlue. The NWS classified this tornado as an EF-U due to insufficient information, with its path spanning nearly 1.3 miles from Vanlue to New Riegel.
Furthermore, reports confirmed the presence of an EF-2 tornado that barreled through Crawford and Richland counties, just south of the Huron county line. This robust tornado tore through the area for almost 20 minutes, leaving behind a trail of extensive damage to numerous homes, outbuildings, trees, and power poles. Despite the significant destruction, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities within the 13 Action News viewing area.
Moreover, videos captured by local residents displayed the sheer power and intensity of the tornadoes in Hancock County, with some footage showing multiple vortices at certain points during the storms. The harrowing visuals serve as a stark reminder of the raw force of nature and the importance of preparedness in the face of such disasters.
Elsewhere in the region, additional tornadoes were reported, with particularly violent ones striking areas just south of Lima. Among the areas hardest hit by the March 14 storms is Logan County, Ohio, where officials have sadly confirmed the loss of at least three lives. Governor Mike DeWine has scheduled a visit to the impacted areas to assess the damage and engage with affected residents on Friday.
