Terengganu, Malaysia – The RXZ Members 7.0 event drew a significant crowd of Yamaha RXZ motorcycle enthusiasts from across the nation today, marking a vibrant gathering for fans of this iconic two-stroke bike. Scheduled for August 22 and 23 at the Terengganu Drag Strip in Gong Badak, the event is anticipated to attract over 100,000 participants, surpassing previous years’ turnouts.
However, the first day of the celebration was marred by several accidents involving attendees en route to the event. One concerning video circulating on social media captured a scene of chaos on a highway near Chukai, with three wrecked motorcycles strewn across the road and two injured riders visible on the shoulder.
Another video showcased a group of motorcyclists performing stunts and switching lanes recklessly, as they sped down the highway. Such reckless behavior, while exhilarating for some, raises serious safety concerns, especially during large gatherings like RXZ Members 7.0.
Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in separate incidents related to the event. In Bera, 33-year-old Mohd Syukri Shahrudin died in a motorcycle crash while traveling to the gathering. He sustained severe head and arm injuries, prompting police to blame the accident on the rider’s loss of control. Mohd Syukri was part of a convoy of about 60 motorcycles, positioned near the front.
In a separate tragedy, nurse Roslinawati Ramli, 33, died after her Yamaha RXZ motorcycle crashed on the East Coast Expressway. Police reported that she was part of a smaller group of 13 motorcycles en route to the event when her bike lost control, leading to fatal injuries.
In light of the event’s significance to the motorcycle community, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a government allocation of RM100,000 for the RXZ Members 7.0 participants. The prime minister emphasized the importance of the motorcycle community, affirming that such gatherings promote unity, friendship, and contribute significantly to the local economy.
Over 600 police officers are being deployed across various districts to help ensure safety during the event, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to managing large influxes of participants while mitigating risks associated with motorcycle gatherings.
