Glasgow, Scotland — A 48-year-old man has been sentenced to a total of 15 years for a brutal attack on two fellow passengers aboard a train, with an extended jail term of 12 years followed by three years of supervision upon release. Thomas Craig was convicted of assaulting one man to the danger of his life and of attempting to murder another during a violent incident on February 16, 2024.
The incident occurred on a service traveling from Glasgow to Perth, where Craig, reportedly intoxicated, began interacting with other passengers. Within minutes, he directed an insult at his first victim, escalating the situation into violence. Witnesses described the moment when Craig leaped from his seat and struck the man multiple times over the head with a bottle, sending the victim fleeing in distress.
As the victim attempted to escape, Craig pursued him relentlessly, eventually shattering the bottle in the process. Armed with the jagged remains, Craig struck again, leading to serious injuries for the first victim. When another passenger attempted to intervene, Craig turned his aggression towards him, delivering several punches before inflicting life-threatening wounds with the broken bottle.
The second victim sustained grave injuries, including a stab wound near his heart and a collapsed lung. At one point, the man lost a significant amount of blood and was rushed into intensive care. The court heard that both victims were in their early twenties, contrasting starkly with Craig’s life choices, shaped by alcohol and drug abuse.

After the assault, Craig returned to his seat, casually tossed the broken bottle neck towards the victims, and made off with one of their mobile phones before changing his bloodied clothes.
