Sydney, Australia — Two men have been charged with the murder of John Versace, a 23-year-old tradesman who was fatally shot outside his family home in Condell Park in May. On the night of the shooting, Versace was attacked as he parked his utility vehicle around 10:30 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported that a gunman approached and unleashed a barrage of ten shots, resulting in Versace collapsing in the driveway. Both individuals appeared in Bankstown Local Court, where they did not seek bail. Police allege that while the 43-year-old did not pull the trigger, he played a crucial role in orchestrating the deadly attack.
Superintendent Jason Box stated that the older suspect is accused of staging vehicles in anticipation of the crime and driving the shooter to the location. The younger man, according to police, assisted in the planning by arranging the vehicles involved.
Authorities have yet to determine whether Versace was a victim of mistaken identity, although Superintendent Box indicated that he was considered a “hardworking young man” with no ties to organized crime.
