The storm, identified as Typhoon Ewiniar, made its way along the country’s eastern coast before dissipating and moving away from the archipelago. Despite the destruction it left in its wake, the densely populated capital, Manila, was fortunate to evade a direct hit.
In the aftermath of the typhoon, rescue and recovery efforts have been underway to assist affected communities. In Quezon province, six individuals lost their lives to floodwaters or falling trees, while in Misamis Oriental province, a tragic incident claimed the life of a villager struck by a tree while on a motorcycle taxi. Flash floods engulfed many villages, with some areas submerged in up to eight feet of water, leading to significant property damage and displacement of residents.
Authorities and local officials have been working tirelessly to address the aftermath of the typhoon, with Governor Angelina Tan of Quezon province overseeing relief efforts and distribution of aid to impacted villagers. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reported that over 26,700 individuals were affected by the typhoon, prompting the activation of evacuation centers and the displacement of thousands. Seaports and airports faced closures, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, while widespread power outages affected several cities and towns.
