Union Family Murder-Suicide Spurs Community Fundraiser for Burial Costs

UNION, New Jersey – The community is rallying to support the grieving family of four who were tragically found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The Alarcon family, consisting of Ruben Alarcon, 51, Andrea Alarcon, 42, and their two daughters, Scarlett, 9, and Emma, 6, were discovered in their home on Lincrest Terrace in Union. The family succumbed to gunshot wounds in what authorities have determined to be a murder-suicide.

Union Funeral Home – Lytwyn & Grillo has initiated a fundraiser to assist the Alarcon family with the expenses associated with the funerals and burial. The goal is to raise $25,000, and the community has already donated more than $6,000 to show their support.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities have not revealed a motive for the tragic event. Meanwhile, public records indicate that the family’s home was in foreclosure, and was sold in a sheriff’s sale in October 2023. The property was listed under the ownership of the Alarcon family, who had lived in the house since 2000.

The murder-suicide was discovered when sheriff’s officers arrived at the home to serve an eviction notice. The property deed shows that the house was purchased at auction by a local nonprofit group that offers therapy for children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

The loss of the Alarcon family has deeply affected the Union community, and a funeral mass is scheduled to be held for them at St. Michael’s Church. In the midst of this heartbreaking tragedy, the community has come together to support the surviving relatives and honor the memory of the Alarcon family.
