Denver police are investigating a series of violent incidents that occurred Thursday evening, culminating in multiple stabbings, a fatal shooting, and at least one arrest. Authorities responded to five separate reports, raising concerns about public safety in the city.
The turmoil began around 7:30 p.m. when officers discovered an unresponsive individual outdoors near Federal Boulevard and West Howard Place, close to Paco Sanchez Park. Initial investigations have not clarified the identity of the deceased or whether foul play is suspected.
Shortly after, around 8:30 p.m., police were called to a reported stabbing in the 2100 block of Stout Street, located in the Capitol Hill area. Upon arrival, officers found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment. As of Friday afternoon, no suspect details were available.
Authorities began another death investigation shortly after 9 p.m. near South Colorado Boulevard and Interstate 25. Again, no further information has been disclosed about this second outdoor incident.
The night turned deadly when officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 1600 block of Pearl Street just after 3 a.m. on Friday. Here, they found two victims, both of whom were taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead around 10 a.m., according to police updates.
The series of violent events did not conclude there. At approximately 3:30 a.m., another stabbing incident was reported at the intersection of South Federal Boulevard and West Alameda Avenue. One victim was found at the scene and received medical attention.
Following these incidents, police arrested 42-year-old Benjamin Bastien, suspecting his involvement in a robbery connected to one of the stabbings. The Denver District Attorney’s Office will determine the final charges against him.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the identities of the deceased following their investigations. Police officials reported that they are in contact with all individuals involved and are urging anyone with additional information to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867.
Authorities continue to investigate the string of incidents as details remain limited, and residents are on high alert in the aftermath of the violent night.
