Volunteer Ryan Realbuto Killed in Alleged Robbery on Washington, D.C. Street

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A young volunteer from upstate New York who dedicated his time to working with at-risk youths in the capital was tragically shot and killed during an alleged robbery.

On Thursday night, 23-year-old Ryan Realbuto, from Pittsford, NY, was walking home when the incident occurred on South Dakota Avenue NE. Authorities are currently searching for a dark-colored Honda Accord believed to be connected to the shooting.

Realbuto was described as a deeply caring individual who had found his calling in working with at-risk youths. He had been volunteering with a Catholic organization in D.C., where he was assisting students at Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School.

The tragic incident took place as Realbuto and two friends were walking home from an event at a local church. As they walked along South Dakota Avenue, they were approached by a car whose occupants asked for money. When Realbuto stated that he had no money, he was shot by someone in the car. Despite the efforts of neighbors and emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

His untimely death has left those who knew him in deep sorrow, while also prompting discussions within the organization for which he volunteered about the importance of their mission.

The community was shocked by the incident, as it was in an area that was not typically associated with such violent acts. Realbuto’s dedication to living in the communities he served exemplified his commitment to his work and the values he held.

As the investigation continues, friends, family, and colleagues mourn the loss of a young man who had only just begun to make a positive impact in the lives of at-risk youths. The senseless act of violence has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and worked with Realbuto.
