MIRAMAR, FL – A South Florida man faces first-degree murder charges after a deadly encounter at a local drugstore left another man dead. Authorities say Jaime Taylor, 28, was denied bond shortly after his arrest for allegedly shooting Anthony Souvenir, 27, following a heated altercation.
The incident occurred on February 3 at a Walgreens in Miramar, where both men had come across each other unexpectedly. Souvenir was accompanied by his girlfriend and their infant child when he accused Taylor, who was engaged in a phone call, of staring at his partner too intensely, according to the police.
This confrontation quickly escalated into an exchange of words and, ultimately, gunfire, according to law enforcement. Although both men were reportedly armed, it was Taylor who allegedly fired the initial shots.
Souvenir allegedly attempted to pursue Taylor despite being shot, but he soon collapsed. Emergency medical services rushed him to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss described the altercation as a “customer dispute” that tragically devolved into violence. The event unfolded in front of several witnesses inside the store, many of whom promptly dialed 911 in a state of panic. Souvenir’s girlfriend reportedly described the shooter to authorities as an unknown man, emphasizing the randomness of the encounter.
As chaos ensued within the store, terrified bystanders sought safety and relayed their fears to emergency operators. One individual was heard urging, “Lock the door, can you lock the door?” before expressing concerns that the perpetrator might return.
Following the incident, Taylor reportedly fled to a nearby friend’s residence. Despite his short-lived evade from law enforcement, he turned himself in later to police. In a court session held the next day, a judge decided Taylor should remain in custody without the option of bail.
Taylor now faces serious charges of first-degree murder, marking the beginning of what could be a long legal battle ahead. The tragic episode has left the community reeling and underscores the unpredictable dangers of confrontations turning fatal.
