Whitmore Lake House Explosion Leaves Four Dead: Vigil Held at High School

WHITMORE LAKE, Mich. (AP) – A vigil took place at Whitmore Lake High School to honor the four individuals who lost their lives in a tragic house explosion on Saturday. The homeowner, 72-year-old Richard Pruden, was severely injured but managed to survive. Unfortunately, his daughter, 51-year-old Hope Bragg, her 53-year-old husband Don, and their children, 22-year-old Kenneth and 19-year-old Elizabeth, were killed in the explosion. The only survivor from the immediate family was their 16-year-old son Stephen.

Township manager Ken Dignan described the Bragg family as “adventurous, happy, fun, loving, and smart.” Both Richard Pruden and his grandson Stephen Bragg are currently in stable condition at the hospital.

The Bragg family, who had been visiting from Arkansas, has left many in shock and disbelief. Lt. David Powell expressed the community’s sentiment, stating, “It’s horrible, you know they’re from out of state, the next of kin from a different state. They are trying to take care of the one who are still with us recovering in the hospital.”

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion, but they believe it was an undetermined fuel-air explosion. Lt. David Powell assured that they do not suspect any foul play at this time.

As the community grapples with this tragedy, two GoFundMe pages have been set up to assist with Richard Pruden’s medical expenses and 16-year-old Stephen Bragg’s recovery.

In the midst of this devastating event, the source of the explosion and its exact location within the house remain unknown. Investigators are diligently working to uncover the truth and bring closure to the community.

To support the victims and their families, donations can be made to the GoFundMe pages set up for Richard Pruden and Stephen Bragg. The community’s thoughts and prayers are with the individuals affected by this heartbreaking event.
