Youth Charged with Assault After Victim Seriously Injured in Corner Brook Incident

CORNER BROOK, Newfoundland – Two teenagers have been charged by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for an assault on a 14-year-old student at Corner Brook Intermediate. The incident took place on Thursday morning, and police responded to a disturbance at the school. The injured student was taken to the hospital, but fortunately, the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The RNC has apprehended a 15-year-old male and a 14-year-old female in connection with the assault. The male teenager is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm, and the female teenager is facing a charge of assault.

Const. James Cadigan emphasized that the incident goes beyond bullying and is considered a violent act. He urged anyone with information to come forward, as the investigation is ongoing.

Cadigan also highlighted the importance of parents talking to their children about consent and the potential traumatic effects of such incidents. He emphasized the need for young people and adults to seek help to protect their mental health in the aftermath of such events.

The Department of Education expressed its commitment to the safety of all students, teachers, and staff but declined to comment further due to privacy reasons. The two charged youths have been released to appear in provincial court at a later date.
