WATERBURY, CT – A 25-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after authorities say he fatally shot his parents in their Waterbury residence, following an intense argument over his lack of financial support for the family.
Javian Adams was arrested this week and charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances, felony murder, and criminal use of a weapon, as well as burglary and larceny related to incidents that occurred the following day. The killings have shocked the community and renewed conversations about domestic violence and family conflict.
Police say the tragedy unfolded late Monday night when Carlene Williams, 51, was heard on home surveillance confronting her son about not contributing to household expenses or responsibilities. The exchange escalated, and authorities allege Adams responded with indifference. Investigators believe that shortly after the argument, Adams retrieved a weapon and shot his mother twice before turning the gun on his 55-year-old father, Marc Adams. Both were killed execution-style.
Court records indicate Javian Adams had a documented history of domestic violence, including prior charges brought in December 2024 for assault, strangulation or suffocation, and risk of injury to a child. Despite previous interventions, this latest incident marks a severe escalation in violence that authorities say was triggered by ongoing disputes.
Investigators noted that although Marc Adams did not live at the Waterbury home, he frequently argued with his son during visits, especially regarding allegations that Javian had stolen money from his mother. The repeated family discord appears to have reached a breaking point, leading up to Monday’s events.
On Tuesday morning, Adams was still at large when residents of Watertown, about 15 minutes from Waterbury, reported a break-in. One homeowner recalled discovering Adams in his garage; the suspect allegedly responded calmly, admitting he was hungry but offering little explanation for his presence.
Adams reportedly fled the scene and left in his mother’s white Ford Escape, authorities said. Watertown police responded to the burglary report and found evidence, including a discarded backpack and sneakers, which later linked Adams to the violent crimes in Waterbury.
Officers soon located and apprehended the suspect, who remains in custody on a $6 million bond. A court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22.
Under state law, the charge of murder with special circumstances carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole if Adams is convicted.
Officials continue to investigate the series of events, including the circumstances that led to the confrontation, as well as Adams’ alleged actions in the hours after the killings. No additional suspects are being sought at this time.
