Plainville, Ga. — A 65-year-old man with an extensive criminal background was arrested Tuesday morning following an alleged attack at a residential property. The incident occurred when a local resident reported that a man brandishing scissors assaulted her inside her home.
The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 9:30 a.m. regarding the assault. According to investigators, the victim managed to fend off her attacker with assistance from another woman, leading him to flee the scene.
Law enforcement officials quickly identified the suspect as Dwight S. Hunter. Authorities shared that they gathered information on his location and found him near Adairsville, where he was apprehended by officers from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. Hunter was subsequently transported to the Gordon County Jail.
Hunter faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and battery, as well as allegations of elder abuse. He also reportedly made three separate threats to harm the victim’s family and is being held on a probation violation.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston stated that Hunter’s criminal history spans several decades, with records indicating engagements with the state prison system dating back to the 1970s. At the time of his arrest, he was serving probation for past convictions, including aggravated assault and kidnapping.
