Arrest Made in Murder Case Hundreds of Miles Away from South Carolina

EDGEFIELD COUNTY, SC – A 37-year-old man from Edgefield County, South Carolina, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 35-year-old Sumter resident, officials announced. Quenell Marquis Anderson was apprehended in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, located over 500 miles away from Edgefield County, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police and the Prince George’s County Police Department, as reported by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

According to an arrest warrant shared by SLED, Anderson allegedly shot Ricky Martin multiple times on March 2. He was identified as the shooter by a source known to law enforcement, along with other evidence gathered during SLED’s investigation. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this time.

Following his arrest in Maryland, Anderson was extradited back to South Carolina and booked at the Edgefield County Detention Center. He is currently being held at the Newberry County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records. Additionally, 37-year-old Roscoe Pough Jr. was previously charged by SLED with accessory after the fact to murder in connection with the case.

The Johnston Police Department requested that SLED take the lead in the investigation into Martin’s death. The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. As of now, there is no information available regarding why Anderson was in Maryland or how authorities were able to track him down in that state.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the long arm of the law and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across state lines to bring suspects to justice. The victim, Ricky Martin, was taken from his loved ones too soon, and the legal process will work towards holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

As the investigation continues and the case moves forward, more details may emerge regarding the events leading up to the shooting and the circumstances surrounding Anderson’s arrest. The community is left to mourn the loss of a life cut short by senseless violence, while law enforcement remains dedicated to ensuring justice is served in this case and others like it.
