Assault suspect issued new threat charge in Longford park incident

Longford, Ireland – A man in Longford, Ireland, faced additional charges after being accused of assaulting a woman in a local park. Michal Godla, 34, of Annaly Court, appeared in Longford District Court where a new charge of threatening to kill the alleged victim was presented by Judge Bernadette Owens.

Last month, Godla had appeared in court for an earlier charge of assault causing harm to an unnamed female at The Mall in Longford town on August 7, 2023. During the recent court appearance, Detective Garda Orla Geraghty provided evidence of arrest, charge, and caution regarding the new charge under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

When confronted with the charge of threatening to kill or cause serious harm, Godla remained silent. The State, represented by Sgt Enda Daly, disclosed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had given directions for Godla to stand trial on both counts. Furthermore, the DPP was open to the possibility of Godla entering a signed plea at a later stage.

Judge Owens decided to release Godla on continuing bail until the next court appearance scheduled for June 4 at Longford District Court. During this session, a book of evidence will be presented. It is a crucial moment in the legal proceedings as the case progresses towards a potential trial.
