Assault suspect Michael Godla appears in court for a second time in alleged incident at Longford park

Longford, Ireland – A 34-year-old man from Annaly Court, Longford, made an appearance in Longford District Court today, facing charges of assault causing harm to a woman in a Longford park. The incident occurred on August 7, 2023, at The Mall in Longford town, where a woman in her 50s was attacked while taking a walk around 2:30 am.

The victim suffered serious facial injuries as a result of the assault and was subsequently taken to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital for medical treatment. The accused, Michael Godla, had his first court appearance in January at Athlone District Court after being formally charged in connection with the incident.

During the court proceedings, Sgt Enda Daly, representing the State, explained that they were still awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and requested an adjournment to further review the investigation file. Despite Judge Bernadette Owens emphasizing the need for progression in the case, defense solicitor Frank Gearty had no objections to the adjournment request.

Michael Godla was granted continuing bail and is set to appear again in Longford District Court on April 9 for further proceedings. The case continues to unfold as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault in Longford town.
