Attack on NIA Officers in Kolkata Described as “Completely Unprovoked” by Agency

Kolkata, India: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has responded to allegations of “unlawful actions” and a violent attack on its officers in the Bhupatinagar area of West Bengal. The NIA stated that the attack was “completely unprovoked” and denied any wrongdoing in its actions during an investigation into a deadly explosion involving crude bombs. The agency, in a statement, emphasized that its actions were lawful and carried out as part of a court-sanctioned probe into the tragic incident.

According to the NIA, its team conducting searches in Naruabila village faced a violent mob that obstructed their duties. The agency highlighted that the searches were conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and security provided by CRPF, including female constables. Despite following all legal procedures during the arrests of two accused individuals, the NIA personnel were assaulted, resulting in injuries to one officer and damage to an official vehicle.

The arrests of Manobrata Jana and Bailicharan Maity were related to their alleged involvement in a crude bomb explosion that claimed three lives in Naruabila village. The NIA revealed that the duo had evaded summons for joining the investigation, leading to a court order acknowledging the serious nature of the allegations against them. The agency asserted that its actions were in accordance with the law and focused on uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident that occurred in December 2022.

Despite facing challenges during the operation in Bhupatinagar, the NIA remains committed to its investigation into the fabrication of crude bombs and the explosion that resulted in loss of lives. The agency’s statement underscored the importance of upholding the law and ensuring justice for the victims of such heinous crimes. The NIA’s efforts to uncover the truth behind the explosion reflect its dedication to maintaining law and order while pursuing justice for those affected by the tragic incident in West Bengal.
