HYDERABAD, India – A dispute between customers and staff at a restaurant in Abids Grand Hotel in Hyderabad escalated into a physical altercation. The conflict arose from the customers’ dissatisfaction with the quality of the biryani served at the establishment.
A video clip, allegedly filmed by one of the customers, has been circulating on the internet. The footage shows waiters assaulting a group of patrons with sticks, with the distressing scene captured as women are heard screaming in the background.
According to reports, the complainant’s family from Dhoolpet gathered at the restaurant to celebrate the New Year. Unhappy with the quality of the biryani, they requested a replacement, but the substituted food was also unsatisfactory. This led to a heated argument and eventually a physical confrontation between the customers and the restaurant staff.
The incident resulted in the staff members being charged under Sections 324, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and subsequently released on bail. Assistant commissioner of police A Chandrasehkar stated that the staff got aggressive with the customers after an argument ensued when the server questioned them about the issue.
Following the incident, the victims reportedly reached out to Goshamahal MLA, who issued a threat to set the restaurant ablaze if the police failed to take action against the establishment. He demanded the closure of the restaurant and the arrest of its owner and others involved.
The incident at Abids Grand Hotel in Hyderabad is a stark reminder of the challenges faced in the restaurant industry when customer complaints escalate into violent altercations, leading to legal and public relations repercussions.
