LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Ian Ziering found himself in a startling altercation on New Year’s Eve when he was involved in a daytime brawl with a group of mini-bike riders in Hollywood. The Beverly Hills 90210 alum, 59, took to his personal Instagram account on Monday to share details of the alarming incident and to update his fans on the well-being of his 12-year-old daughter, Mia, who was with him in the car at the time. Ziering described the unsettling confrontation that occurred when his car was approached aggressively by one of the riders while stuck in traffic, leading to a physical altercation as he exited his vehicle in an attempt to assess any damage.
A video of the incident showed the actor clashing with four bikers who threw punches and kicks before he sprinted across Hollywood Boulevard. “I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace,” Ziering added on Instagram. He also highlighted the need for more effective law enforcement responses to such behavior, expressing his belief in the importance of personal and community safety. Ziering called for law enforcement to take decisive action against such hooliganism on the streets.
In the midst of the incident, Ziering felt the support of his family, friends, and fans, expressing gratitude for their solidarity during this challenging time. The actor was said to be “doing okay” after the altercation, according to a source. The incident, which took place near the famed corner of Hollywood and Highland along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is under probe by the police as they communicate with the people involved. It’s still unclear if anyone was arrested in connection with the incident.
This altercation marks the end of a difficult year for Ziering and other members of the Beverly Hills, 90210 cast, including Shannen Doherty, who had undergone a surgical procedure to remove a tumor earlier in the year. Additionally, Doherty and ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko separated, and she revealed they were divorcing amid “irreconcilable differences.” Ziering and his castmate Tori Spelling have also faced personal struggles and challenges over the last year.
