Burglary Suspect Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Yakima County

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – A burglary suspect was fatally shot by a Selah police officer in Yakima County on Sunday, Jan. 14, leading to an investigation by the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit. The incident unfolded after Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary report on the 1100 block of Ames Rd. in Yakima County at approximately 12:19 p.m.

Upon the deputies’ arrival, the suspect fled in a vehicle, which later became disabled, prompting the suspect to flee on foot. Selah and Yakima Police, along with the Washington State Patrol, joined the deputies in locating the suspect in a garage on the 200 block of Johnson Rd. in Yakima County.

The YVSIU stated that a confrontation ensued between law enforcement and the suspect in the garage, resulting in a Selah PD officer firing their weapon. Despite first aid efforts, the suspect succumbed to the injuries and died at the scene. Now, the YVSIU will lead an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
