ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A suspect serving a life sentence in Illinois for killing a woman on the same day has been charged in the murder of a man in the Patch neighborhood in St. Louis. Timothy B. Stokes, 55, has been charged with first-degree murder in the June 30, 2019, death of Brian Culton at his home in the 200 block of Upton Street, according to St. Louis circuit attorneys.

Culton was found dead in his home in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds, and a witness at the scene reported seeing a woman, described as the victim’s “ex-girlfriend,” and an unidentified man enter the house. A shell casing was found at the scene, and Stokes is currently serving a life sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the murder of Michelle Williams, which occurred just hours after Culton’s death.

According to court documents and past reporting, Stokes murdered Williams by shooting her multiple times in front of witnesses and was later located by Illinois State Police troopers. When confronted, he fired shots at them and was subsequently taken into custody. Stokes later admitted to both murders, stating that he went to Culton’s house to rob him and killed Williams after an argument over the robbery. Culton was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, beloved by his neighbors, and known for his kind and generous nature.
