CINCINNATI, Ohio — A suspect involved in a high-profile assault case in downtown Cincinnati was released on bail just a few hours after facing court for the second time within 48 hours. Jermaine Matthews, 39, from East Price Hill, is among three individuals linked to a violent incident that has raised significant safety concerns among residents.
Prosecutors allege that Matthews played a key role in planning the July 26 attack, described by authorities as a coordinated assault on victims at Fourth and Elm streets. The incident, which was captured on video and quickly went viral, has prompted calls from the community for increased safety measures downtown.
Matthews surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, facing charges that include aggravated riot and assault. During his first court appearance, Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Michael Peck set his initial bail at $100,000. However, during a follow-up hearing on Thursday, Matthews faced additional felony charges, resulting in a total bond requirement of $500,000.
After the bail was posted later that day, Matthews was released from custody. His upcoming legal proceedings are set to be reviewed by a Hamilton County grand jury on August 8.
