Collision in Co Meath Claims Lives of Two Drivers and Leaves Several Injured

GORMANSTON, Ireland — A tragic accident early Monday morning has claimed the lives of two drivers and left several others with serious injuries in County Meath. The crash, involving a truck, a bus, and a car, occurred on the R132 road around 6:30 a.m.

The deceased include a truck driver in his 40s and a bus driver in his 50s, both pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 40s, the driver of the car, and a teenage girl passenger were rushed to nearby hospitals, suffering from severe injuries. The woman was subsequently admitted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, while the girl was transferred from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

In addition to the fatalities, several others were transported to medical facilities for non-life-threatening injuries. The road remains closed to facilitate a thorough forensic investigation by authorities.

Local residents expressed shock and concern over the increasing frequency of traffic accidents in the area. Councillor Sharon Tolan lamented the tragedy, noting that the bus service involved is vital for many commuters, including students traveling to school and workers heading to Dublin. Tolan emphasized the urgent need for measures to enhance road safety, reflecting a community increasingly alarmed by the spate of incidents.

Senator Sharon Keogan echoed these sentiments, marking the event as a “dark day” for County Meath and surrounding regions. She revealed that ambulances could be heard in the vicinity shortly before the crash, underscoring the immediate response to a tragedy that has deeply affected the community.

Compounding the sorrow, the crash follows the recent funerals of four young individuals from nearby Dundalk who lost their lives in a separate accident just days prior. The fatalities included two young adults known to the local community, intensifying the grief and uncertainty surrounding road safety.

Gardaí are actively investigating the incident and are urging witnesses to come forward with any information. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this devastating event, calls for improved traffic safety measures become increasingly urgent.
