Collision in Medina County Claims Life of Local Man, Leaves Another Injured

Medina County, Texas – A tragic vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 90 resulted in the death of a 55-year-old man and injuries to another individual on Tuesday morning. The collision has raised concerns about road safety in the region.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that state troopers responded to the crash around 11 a.m. near mile marker 520, a location situated west of D’Hanis and FM 1796. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of a Chevrolet Colorado attempted to switch lanes when it struck a trailer affixed to a Toyota Tundra.

The impact caused the Toyota Tundra to lose control, leading it to roll over. The driver of the Tundra, identified as Roberto Mares Jr. from D’Hanis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident’s severity has highlighted the potential dangers of lane switching on busy highways.

A 54-year-old female passenger in Mares’ vehicle was transported to a hospital in San Antonio for evaluation and treatment, though her condition remains unclear. The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado reported no injuries from the incident.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the accident’s causes and contributing factors. It comes in light of ongoing discussions about improving highway safety measures in the area, as local officials seek to identify solutions to reduce such tragic events.

As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of Mares, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of road safety and the very real consequences of vehicle collisions.
