Birmingham, Alabama – The suspect involved in the shooting death of a 77-year-old man on Birmingham’s Parkway East has been formally charged with capital murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Anthony Dubose Jr., 25, is also facing an attempted murder charge for wounding another man in a separate incident.
The ordeal began on a Saturday afternoon when Birmingham 911 sent out a lookout bulletin for an SUV shooting at a sedan at Edwards Lake Road and Gadsden Highway. The incident escalated, leading to a crash in front of Arby’s, where Stephen A. Keith Jr. was found injured in a small car that had collided with a large pickup truck. Keith was rushed to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In the midst of the chaos, another person was also found shot in a separate incident, but fortunately, their injuries were non-life-threatening. After a search, investigators located the shooting suspect in Tom Bradford Park, where he was taken into custody with the help of law enforcement from various agencies.
The investigation initially indicated that Keith was caught in crossfire, but further developments revealed that he had been specifically targeted. As the case unfolds, questions remain about the motive behind the shooting and any potential connection between the suspect and the victim.
The incident marks Birmingham’s 135th homicide of the year, with Dubose now held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail. The broader implications of this tragic event continue to unfold as the community grapples with the impact of yet another senseless act of violence.
