Deadly Incident at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield Under Investigation

FORT STEWART, Ga. – The authorities at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield are currently investigating the tragic death of a family that occurred on November 15, as announced by the base’s public affairs office on Thursday. The family was found dead in their on-post housing, and the identities of the deceased will not be disclosed until their next of kin have been notified.

According to a social media post from Fort Stewart, law enforcement was present at the scene of the incident in on-post housing around 5:20 p.m. local time on Wednesday. The deceased individuals were later identified as “one female Soldier, her male spouse, and their two children.”

The family was found unresponsive after police entered the home at around 2 p.m., and they were pronounced deceased at approximately 5:30 p.m. The cause of their deaths has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. The public affairs office stated that there is currently no reason to believe that there is an extended threat to the community.

Fort Stewart, a 280,000-acre base located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia, is home to the Third Infantry Division. The incident is being jointly investigated by Fort Stewart law enforcement and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, and no further details are available at this time.
