Domestic Violence Tragedy Unfolds: Woman Found Dead After Multiple Assault Reports

Minneapolis, Minnesota – A woman was tragically found dead in her North Loop apartment under suspicious circumstances, shedding light on her repeated calls to Minneapolis police over the past 18 months regarding assaults by her boyfriend. Allison J. Lussier had reported at least six incidents of domestic violence to the authorities before her untimely discovery on February 22 in the Cameron Historic Flats.

According to police records reviewed by the Star Tribune, Lussier detailed instances of violent assaults by her partner in the past year and a half, leading up to her demise. The authorities are currently conducting an open and active investigation into her death, awaiting the results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.

In response to each reported assault, police officers interviewed Lussier and documented her injuries, recommending her to seek support from Cornerstone, a nonprofit organization specializing in aiding victims of domestic abuse. The records show that Lussier had identified her on-again off-again boyfriend as the suspected perpetrator in three of the reported assaults, with one incident involving an ex-boyfriend identified by Metro Transit police.

Lussier’s harrowing experiences culminated in a tragic end, sparking a public outcry in the community. Dozens of people marched in what was termed a “Justice March,” demanding answers and justice for Lussier’s death. The marchers, including Native Americans and Lussier’s son, emphasized the need for accountability in cases of domestic violence and sought to honor Lussier’s memory through awareness and action.

The case highlights the pervasive issue of intimate partner violence in Minnesota, which claimed the lives of at least 36 individuals in 2023. Artika Roller, Executive Director of Cornerstone, emphasized the essential role of law enforcement and community support in preventing such tragedies. Roller underscored the importance of a comprehensive approach involving various stakeholders to address abusive relationships effectively.

As investigations continue and the community seeks closure, support resources are being extended to Lussier’s family by the state Department of Public Safety’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office. In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, resources like the Day One Hotline remain available for individuals in abusive relationships or those seeking assistance for themselves or others.
