The suspect, Dulce Amaya, 36, is believed to be homeless and had formed a friendship with the victim, Raymond Corn, over the course of several months, according to SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski. The investigation commenced on Nov. 17, when police responded to a report of an elderly man being assaulted in his City Heights residence on Chamoune Avenue. Corn was discovered alone with severe injuries, and despite efforts by medics to obtain information from him, he was unable to respond. Corn was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he passed away a week-and-a-half later.
The Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that Corn’s cause of death was blunt force trauma from a physical assault, prompting homicide detectives to take over the case. Their investigation revealed that Corn had been a victim of physical elder abuse at the hands of a female he had befriended over the past several months.
Amaya is wanted for murder, and authorities believe she frequents the City Heights area as a transient.
