Brighton, Melbourne – A 76-year-old doctor was brutally assaulted on the first day of the New Year after coming to the aid of an unconscious man. The doctor, known as a beloved figure in the community, was attacked by the man he was trying to help, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the tranquil suburb of Brighton.
The doctor, who was returning from his morning walk, discovered the unconscious man on Bay Street and immediately sprang into action to provide medical assistance. However, the situation took a dark turn when the unconscious man regained consciousness and turned on the doctor around 6:15 am.
The assailant not only assaulted the doctor but also followed him to his home, damaging the front door and issuing further threats. The 29-year-old man responsible for the assault was later arrested by Victoria Police and has sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
Local Member of Parliament for Brighton, James Newbury, described the victim as a “much loved” Jewish doctor and praised his good Samaritan actions. The doctor’s injuries, although non-life-threatening, have left a deep impact on the community.
Following the incident, Victoria Police have called on anyone with information or footage of the assault to come forward and assist with the investigation.
