The bodies were discovered in a rented accommodation in Fuengirola on June 19. Méndez, aged 43, reportedly sustained fatal injuries from multiple blows with a hammer, while her husband, 46-year-old Jarrod Gelling, was found with stab wounds believed to be self-inflicted. The bodybuilder’s coach, Branden Ray, shared his devastation over the loss, expressing his belief that Méndez was on the brink of a significant career milestone. In an Instagram post, he recalled their aspirations for her upcoming competition, stating, “We had just 17 days until the stage, my friend. I told you that you could dominate the top 10 by the end of the year, and I meant it. Rest in paradise, Amy.”
