Explosion Aftermath: Fort Worth First Responders Describe Chaotic Scene

Fort Worth, Texas – First responders from the Fort Worth Fire Department were captured in powerful images Tuesday, as they arrived at the scene of a downtown explosion. The MedStar EMS Dispatch Center received the first notification of the blast at 3:32 p.m. on Monday. The scene was one of controlled chaos, with the dispatch communications supervisor, Stacey Sokulsky, praising the flawless response. Her team handled 911 calls and quickly dispatched crews and ambulances to the scene.

In the early moments of the emergency, Sokulsky expressed uncertainty about the safety of the paramedics she was sending into the area. The situation caused anxiety, but she knew it was important to act swiftly to help those affected. Supervisors Chris Roberts and Jason Hernandez were among the first to provide aid to the wounded. The gravity of the situation was palpable, with Hernandez describing it as one of the more intense moments he had experienced. Meanwhile, Roberts emphasized the need to not only treat physical injuries but also to help calm the patients who were fearful and anxious.

In total, twenty-one people were injured in the blast, suffering from lacerations, broken bones, and burns. The most seriously injured victim, a woman, was flown to Dallas’ Parkland Hospital, where she remains in critical condition in the burn unit. Family members of another victim recounted a harrowing experience, describing how he and a co-worker had to crawl to safety and jump from a collapsed stairwell to escape the debris.

Three hours after the explosion, firefighters were able to rescue a woman who had been trapped beneath the rubble. Paramedics praised the seamless teamwork among different agencies, highlighting the swift and coordinated response from the Fort Worth police department and fire department.
