EXPLOSION: Dozens Injured in Fort Worth Gas Leak Blast

FORT WORTH, Texas – An explosion at the W.T. Waggoner Building in downtown Fort Worth left nearly two dozen people injured on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred as the building, which was recently remodeled as the Sandman Signature Fort Worth Hotel, suffered significant damage. The explosion is suspected to have been caused by a natural gas leak, although an official confirmation is pending.

At least 21 individuals sustained injuries, with one person in critical condition and four in serious condition. Officials have evacuated a two-block area around the explosion site. The Fort Worth Fire Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), is leading the investigation into the cause of the blast. It is believed that ongoing construction at the building may have contributed to the explosion.

The Sandman Signature Fort Worth Hotel, a historic 20-story tower, suffered major structural damage, including blown-out floors, facade, and nearby sidewalk. Emergency responders were on the scene, identifying and treating victims, with no fatalities reported. The investigation is ongoing to assess the stability of the building and to determine the extent of the damage.

Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare ordered the closure of downtown county buildings following the incident, excluding jails and law enforcement facilities. Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed readiness to deploy additional resources for the safety and well-being of the affected area. Atmos Energy, along with the Texas Railroad Commission, is working to address the gas supply to prevent any further danger.

Given the circumstances, it is crucial for individuals to report any suspected natural gas leaks to the authorities and to evacuate the area immediately. The situation remains fluid, and further developments will be reported as more information becomes available.
