Explosion Leads to Involuntary Manslaughter Charges for Detroit Businessman

Mount Clemens, Michigan – In a tragic incident in suburban Detroit, a businessman faces charges of involuntary manslaughter following an explosion at a building he owned. The explosion led to a nitrous oxide cannister being propelled through the air, resulting in the death of another man. Noor Noel Kestou, 31, of Commerce Township, is now at the center of a legal battle tied to the March 4 explosion that claimed the life of 19-year-old Turner Lee Salter.

Kestou’s bond has been set at $500,000 cash/surety only, as he awaits a probable cause hearing scheduled for May 7 in Clinton Township District Court. The blast took place at a building that housed a distributor for the vaping industry named Goo, which had a significant amount of vape pens stored on-site. Authorities disclosed that a truckload of butane canisters had recently arrived, with over half of the stock still present at the time of the explosion that propelled cannisters up to 2 miles away.

Goo had obtained a township occupancy permit in September 2022 for the 26,700-square-foot building intended to operate as a retail location for a “smoke shop/vape store.” Kestou’s attorney, James Thomas, declined to provide any comments regarding the case. With a scheduled Friday morning news conference, authorities aim to shed more light on the details surrounding the incident. The tragic event has left the community in shock and seeking answers as to what led to such a devastating outcome.
