Explosion on Akal Bravo Platform in Campeche Claims Lives of COTER Workers

Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico – Two workers tragically lost their lives in a devastating explosion on the Akal Bravo platform in the waters of Campeche. This platform is a part of the Cantarell Production Asset operated by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

One of the victims, Emmanuel Arévalo Xiu, was an employee of COTER, while the other, Julio César Rojas Pintor, also worked for the same company. The explosion, which occurred on Saturday evening, left a total of 14 workers affected, with varying degrees of injuries, including burns.

Following the explosion, five workers suffered first and second-degree burns, with two in serious condition. Additionally, two workers sustained minor injuries and were in stable condition, while the remaining workers were discharged from the hospital after evaluation. Three of the individuals involved were employed by the DIAVAZ company and were also later discharged from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) hospital.

In the aftermath of the incident, Pemex provided updates on the workers’ conditions. Unfortunately, one worker from COTER lost his life as a result of the explosion, while others were being treated for burn injuries at the IMSS hospital. The severity of the injuries led to one worker being transferred to Mexico City for further medical care.

The entire community is grieving the loss of these workers and the impact of the explosion on the Akal Bravo platform. Investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to this tragic event.
