Attempted Murder Suspects Arrested in Violent Downtown Fresno Attack

FRESNO, Calif. – Two men were arrested by the Fresno Police Department following a violent attack in downtown Fresno early Friday morning. Police officers discovered a 47-year-old man unconscious at the intersection of Mariposa and E Streets at 4:40 a.m. The victim had suffered severe trauma to his head and upper body and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Authorities were able to identify the suspects as 18-year-old Raymond Mendoza and 19-year-old Ernest Oliver after reviewing video footage from a nearby business. The footage showed the victim being assaulted by the two Hispanic men, who punched and kicked him multiple times. The assailants also struck the man several times in the head and upper body with a large metal object.

Detectives promptly located Mendoza and Oliver at a nearby apartment complex and placed them under arrest. The weapon used in the assault was also recovered by officers. The two men were booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of attempted murder.
